Pear Sauce

After sorting out all the pears yesterday worth saving I made six pints of pear sauce out of the bruised fruit. Since I didn't peal the pears they do have flecks of peal in them, but that shouldn't effect the taste.

Pears.....

Our little Asian Pear tree is only three years old. Last year we had a few pears to eat, but only around ten total. Here is much of the harvest for this year. There is still about fifteen pears in the top of the tree that I could not reach. The also have shared a few with the deer and squirrels. I just need to sort out the bruised and blemished ones to cook now and store the rest in the fridge for eating later.

Giant Game

Our family attended a S.F. Giants game so that the girls could sing the national anthem with their choir. Unfortunately I was not able to get a picture on the girls on the field because David and I were still rushing to our seats as they were singing. Before the game while the choir was warming up David and I sat on a bench and ate the sandwiches that I had packed for dinner. This is the view of the San Francisco Bay from our picnic spot along the Embarcadero.

Here is a Lena with Sara lurking in the background at the game
This is a shot from our seats in the outfield bleachers. Baseball is a slow game to watch, but I have to say the Giants stadium is really a great ball park. I would love to be there some time when a ball is hit out of the park and lands in the bay.

Solar canning

Here is a picture of some of the tomatos that I canned today in my solar oven. I couldn't take a picture of the jar in the oven because it glares to much.

Apron, Oh My,

Here is my apron that I finished last week. I finally got around to having my DD take a picture for me today. Two of the fabrics are Amy Butler and the other a fabric that I found in quilting section of my local Joann's.The apron is reversible so here is the other side.

Now we can set the table

I made twelve, count 'em , twelve, place mats to give to the in-laws for their anniversary.
Here they are all together and tied up to give.
They really were not that much work. I think they would have been a lot harder if I didn't have a walking foot for my sewing machine. It would have been had to do the top stitching to hold it all together with out that tool. They have peltex 70 on the inside which makes them fairly stiff and heavy. I hope they enjoy using them as much as I enjoyed making them.

While the children are away....

the parents will eat good food. Check out the dinner that David made us while the children were visiting the grandparents. It was too pretty not to take a picture of and too good also. The eggs came from our chickens and the green beans and tomato came from our garden.
